Summer Wardrobe: The White Shirt

I've been loving the summer weather recently (shocker), but mainly because the sun hasn't taken its yearly pilgrimage to Texas yet. Because of that, outfits have definitely been more fun to put together. Over the last couple of weeks, I've shared my top picks for summer wardrobe refreshes - in pulling together my favorite looks for summer, one thing that I found in every single one of my digital shopping carts was a white button-down. A summer staple, in my opinion, I LOVE a white button-down.

The versatility of a white button-down spans the entire fashion spectrum. From dressed up with a tie, neck scarf, or string of pearls, to dressed down with shorts and a tank top layer, there is no greater (year-round) piece than a classic white button-down.

  1. The classic white cotton button-down is perfect for any time, any outfit, anywhere. It can be done with a tie and jacket or open with a pair of shorts and a driving loafer.

  2. For summer, I love a collarless version. It feels open and breezy - this linen short-sleeve shirt from ASOS is from last year, but they have this really great option this year as well.

  3. This Selvedge twill shirt from J.Crew is one of my absolute favorite pieces in my entire closet. It's got a great structured weight, and year-round, it's such a great piece. This one is from 2023 and is sold out now, but all of J.Crew's denim and denim-like shirting are such great quality.

  4. I found a tuxedo shirt at a thrift store in Austin years ago and have worn it a couple of times but never with a tuxedo. I love the juxtaposition of the crispness with a silk scarf and jeans, but love that you still need cufflinks and studs for closures - these little sticks are from Hazel Smyth in San Antonio.

My email subscribers got a sneak peek of this post and provided some amazing feedback already (if you're not subscribed yet, you can sign up here), but now the white shirt is taking its rightful place on the blog.

(I did get some questions about this men's Ralph Lauren shirt being included in the women's picks - personally, this shape of men's shirt looks great on everyone! Men, find your correct size, and women, size up for a really easy and Cape Cod-inspired fit!)

Happy shopping! Xo, C.
